How Beates

Hot Springs, AR

Howard Leialoha Beates, better known as How, is from Honolulu, Hawaii, and currently lives in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He has his bachelors in Oceanography and Marine Biology from the University of Hawaii. He’s been fly fishing his whole life, and has been kayak fishing for ten years. In the past five years, he’s begun to take kayak fishing more seriously. He’s a licensed fly fishing guide, and he began that journey in 1996. He participates in any KBA, CAKA, and TourneyX group events, and is a huge supporter of Project Healing Waters.
While kayak fishing is one of How’s favorite things, and even greater love of his is his family. “I have three children (well, young adults now) and my wife, Meg, and I have a daughter in heaven. We are in the process of adopting two young boys. Family, or Ohana, is one of the most important things in my life.”

“I have been fly fishing all my life. I have been drift boat, kayak, and canoe fishing for about ten years, and I have found that the Bonafide boat is ‘Fly Fishing Friendly.’ I am proud to be a member of Team Bonafide.”
