Michael Phillips

Johnson City, TN

A native of East Tennessee, Mike was fishing at an early age with his Dad and Grandfather.  A career in the Air Force allowed him to fish all over the country and eventually landed him in Alaska where he discovered kayaking and spent several years paddling Alaskan waters and exploring Prince William Sound.

Since moving to Idaho, he has discovered a fisherman’s paradise that is, “a lot like Alaska with a third of the winter.”  He fishes with Kayak Fishing Idaho, Yak Bassin’, KBF and is a member of Kayak Fishing Military Veterans.  He’s had several wins and top 5 finishes, garnering the KFI Angler of the Year and qualified for the KBF Tenvitational and National Championships.

“Kayak fishing has become my passion.  It combines the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, introduce others to the joy and benefits of kayaking and partake in good-natured competition with like-minded folks.”
